Dr. Joseph Burkes is a retired internal medicine physician and a life-long volunteer peace and social justice activist. During the 1960s and 1970s he participated in the US civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements. In the 1980s he was an activist in  “Physicians for Social Responsibility”,  The global umbrella organization for PSR, “The International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War” won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985 for their efforts to inform  people and government leaders about the medical dangers of nuclear war and the nuclear arms race.

He is a volunteer UFO investigator since 1992 and currently serves as a medical consultant for the Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial Encounters, FREE. For five years in the 1990s, Dr. Burkes was a Working Group Coordinator for Dr. Steven Greer’s Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind Initiative and has done fieldwork with the Peruvian group known as Rahma.  He continues to promote the worldwide efforts of activists that he calls “The Contact Underground.”  Dr. Burkes’ writings focus on the mechanisms of contact. These include his “Virtual Experiencer Theory” which describes the role of illusion during close encounters and the “intelligence-counterintelligence model” for UFO investigations.

Most importantly he sees the need to establish world peace based on social justice as a necessary pre-condition for establishing full direct relations with the non-human intelligences responsible for the flying saucer phenomenon.  In Dr. Burkes’ view they are assisting humanity during this period of rapid transformation of Earth civilization.

Joseph Burkes MD is co-author of the book “Paths to Contact” edited by Jeff Becker. He also has co-authored a chapter on medical healings with researcher Preston Dennett in the FREE compendium “Beyond UFOs.”

Dr. Burkes lives in Northern California with his wife Yael, four small dogs and a 106-year-old desert tortoise named Moishe.

Paths to Contact: True Stories from the Contact Underground (Volume 1) 1st Edition

Paths to Contact: True Stories from the Contact Underground, is about ordinary people having extraordinary experiences of extraterrestrial contact. These people are doctors, computer programmers, sanitation and postal workers, healers, meteorologists, biologists, pilots, artists, engineers – people from many different walks of life. They have each volunteered to tell their story of extraterrestrial contact and how it has affected their life.

Most of these stories involve human initiated contact. That’s right, these are people who go out under the stars and ask for contact, and it happens with amazing reliability when done correctly. The accounts are personal and reflect how deep and heartfelt these experiences were. The stories clearly demonstrate that contact comes in many different forms – not just face-to-face or lights in the sky! They also show that our ET friends are benevolent and as interested in us as we are in them.

When Jeff Becker floated the idea for this book project in December of 2011, the response from so many people eager to tell their stories convinced him that the project would be a success. This has been a team effort, with most of the contributors doing their own writing and telling their story in their own words. These are stories of amazing sightings, personal transformations, and even healings. The contact movement has started, and one day history may recognize that this book was the first to give voice to the movement.

Perhaps this book will inspire you to embark on your own path to contact. While this is not a “how to” book, numerous resources are referenced in the book and even more can be found on the book website. For more information about this ongoing project, see www.pathstocontact.org.
