Don C. Donderi  – The American Personality Inventory (API) is a test that was developed by Ted Davis, Budd Hopkins and Don Donderi to assess the validity of a report that someone has been abducted by extraterrestrials. It consists of 65 true-false questions and can be completed in about ten minutes either on paper or on a digital device. To develop the API, we compared the answers to 608 true-false questions from 52 people whose abduction narratives were verified by researchers like Hopkins and David Jacobs to the answers from two other groups of people.

One group – 75 “controls” – were people who we simply asked to help us “develop a new personality test” but who we had no reason to believe had been abducted. Another group – 26 “simulators” – were people whom we were sure knew about the ET abduction phenomenon but whom we had no reason to believe had been abducted. We asked the people in this group to complete the API “as if” they had been abducted.  Using a statistical tool called multivariate discriminant analysis, we were able to classify each person into one of the three groups: abductees, controls or simulators – based on the pattern of their responses to each of 65 of the original 608 true-false questions.

We report here the results of an analysis of 138 more people who completed to the 65-question API, and who had also completed the online Experiencer Survey that is managed by the MUFON Experiencer Research Team. Don Donderi, dcdonderi@sympatico.ca

CALVIN PARKER – PASAGOULA – THE CLOSEST ENCOUNTER

On October 11th, 1973 nineteen-year-old Calvin Parker and his friend forty-two-year-old Charles Hickson were spending a frustrating evening fishing on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi. Both men loved to fish but tonight’s fishing trip would turn out to be one they would never forget. In the early evening, both men were startled when a strange craft descended and hovered a few feet above the ground and just a few yards from their location. Before they had any chance to run an opening appeared in this craft and out ‘floated’ three humanoid creatures. Both men were absolutely terrified when these creatures grabbed them and took them aboard the craft.
On the craft, both men were subjected to an examination and at one point they were so terrified as they believed they were about to die. Minutes later both Calvin Parker and Charles Hickson were deposited back on the riverbank and the craft departed. Taking off in their car the two terrified witnesses eventually located a public telephone box and phoned the local sheriff. A short time later they were being interviewed at their local sheriff’s office. These two disorientated witnesses told their story of their close encounter and abduction by these strange creatures. The next day all hell was let loose as the press descended on this unsuspecting Mississippi town. Calvin Parker, seriously disturbed by these events, has largely remained in the background without ever detailing the full account of what happened that night, how it affected him and his life, and other close encounters he has experienced down the years.
Now, for the first time, Calvin Parker tells his story in full. This book, Pascagoula – The Closest Encounter, tells the story of one of the classic close encounters currently on record. This book features for the first time the full transcript of Calvin Parker’s hypnotic regression session with the late Budd Hopkins, one of the world’s foremost researchers of this phenomena. The manuscript is also packed full of documents, newspaper cuttings and photographs old and new.

What occurred to two men near the town of Pascagoula in Mississippi
USA on October 22nd, 1973, has entered the annals of ufology as one of
those truly bizarre events that just cannot be explained away as some
sort of psychological aberration or an attempt at fraud perpetrated
by the men who had the experience. Without giving too much away, this
is a blow-by-blow account from one of the men, Calvin Harris, (the
other individual, Charles Hickson, has since died) of what occurred
that fateful night. They were apparently taken on board a machine of
some sort (a spacecraft perhaps) and examined by what appears to have
been extraterrestrials. Ok, so it’s just another reported case of
alien abduction then…well no, it’s not. There is a powerful case based
on polygraphs tests, hypnotic regression, a clandestine recording made
by the police who investigated the claims of the two men as they
discussed what occurred, all of which strongly suggests that they are
describing an event that they absolutely believe happened to them. As
well as the actual account of what transpired, there are reams of
newspaper cuttings, interviews (the one with Budd Hopkins is
especially revealing) and photographs, all of which help to
substantiate their claims and well done to Philip Mantle and Flying
Disk Press for bringing this to the attention of the general public.
There are some aspects of the account that are very reminiscent to the
iconic ‘A70 Abduction’ case in Scotland, mainly because of the sheer
sincerity of the information supplied by Calvin Parker and his
descriptions of what occurred during the abduction process. Subtitled
‘Pascagoula, The Closest Encounter’, this is a powerful and gripping
account of a genuinely traumatic and life-changing event and is an
absolute must for students of ufology: great stuff.
