Chapter 1
Retirement?
When I made the decision to leave the military in 2036 I was very fearful as to what my future would be. Would I be assassinated just as the Marine General who sent me on the political assassination missions. Or would I be sent to rendition (secret military prison), never to see the light of day again. I did not want to live my life always looking over my shoulder and not knowing just how much time on this Earth I had left.

I knew I had to confide in my friend Rock who was a liaison to the US Air Force from Zeta Reticuli stationed at Area 51. I asked him if he would take me back to the year 2000 to live out my retirement years with the woman I love. Rock agreed to my request and started to prepare for my return. He was to take me back a week after I had last seen Marcia. The arrangements were made and within a couple days Rock and I made our departure to the year 2000. I traveled with Rock in his ship which was shadowed by another Grey scout craft.

As a gift for my long service and friendship with the Greys, Rock left the scout ship with me, just in case I ever needed to use it. As I was saying goodbye and thanks to Rock, Marcia pulled up just as planned in her late model Honda. It was time for me to start my new life.

From the very moment, I left the Air Force I felt relieved that I was going to be able to finally live a life with the woman I had always loved. I had longed to just be with her and be her husband since the first time we met at Dulce Base, 1978. From that moment on I knew she was the one. With my new life in front of me I decided it was time to let go of my real name and take on a new identity. My new identity came from a person that has been taken off world to a new Earth colony, so they didn’t mind that I took it. My hope was to just fade into obscurity and become lost in my new suburban life with my new identity.

Starting a new life was challenging at first. One of these challenges was sleep. I would be up every morning at 5 AM. I was so used to getting up and going directly to the mess hall to grab something to eat. Now, I had to go in the kitchen and make it myself. Marcia would still be sound asleep and not wanting to be disturbed. She liked to sleep in and I understood that. But, sleeping in just meant she’d be up by 7:30 AM.

Another challenge was not being in command anymore. I was used to giving the orders, but now that I was married, that quickly changed. I learned something very important early on. A happy wife is a happy life. In this new arrangement, Marcia called the shots. She was in control of the day to day, the food and the financials. I quickly learned that I was going to share in house work and clean up after myself. Then of course there were our two cats. I would feed, clean, pet, and groom them. I felt sure that these cats were from another planet with their strange behaviors. They would sometimes jump on us in bed to wake us up and then go back to sleep. These cats were just like our children, we were their pet people. I became attached to them and enjoyed their company.

My physical exercise regimen transitioned into yard work and walking around the neighborhood. I made myself visible to the community we lived in. As I walked through the neighborhood I would wave at the neighbors and they would wave back. Quickly everyone got to know me and I them. On occasion, I would be called to help them and they would help me.

Trying to stay physically fit started to become an issue. I started to put on weight since I wasn’t eating as healthy as I should have and I was not exercising like I had in the past. So, the weight just started to pile on. Marcia was quick to point this out and I heeded her words about it. I realized Marcia was now in command and I was okay with that.

There was one decision that I made without Marcia’s consent, and that really got under her skin. I bought myself a FZ6 Yamaha motorcycle. I had always wanted a bike of my own to play with. The Yamaha was used and had a few thousand miles on it when I bought it. It was a hobby at first, but eventually I would find a friend in the area to ride with. Henry had several motorcycles and was a retired mechanic. Everything was well until I had a bad fall on Hwy 150 on my way to Ojai for lunch with Henry. My fall happened very close to where Astronaut Pete Conrad, the third man to walk on the moon crashed his motorcycle and then later died. My fall knocked me unconscious.

The next thing I knew I was being pulled off the road by a woman, who turned out to be a nurse on her way to work. She took off my helmet and checked to see if I had any injuries. A couple minutes later the EMT’s arrived on the scene. Henry picked up my bike and stood it up at the side of the road. The EMT’s looked me over and said that I took a hard fall. I looked down at my knees and noticed my Kevlar protection had been ground down right to my Levi’s. I also had a head injury. The EMT’s then placed me on a board and took me to Ventura Trauma Center.

I was followed to the Trauma Center by a CHP (California Highway Patrol), he was there to make sure I did not have any alcohol in my blood. Lucky for me, I didn’t. After that incident, the motorcycle sat in the garage, I was very lucky to be alive. From that point on I decided to just drive my Chevrolet Avalanche truck or Marcia’s Chevrolet Corvette. That Corvette was her baby.

Since my motorcycle crash, I started making my health a priority. I would schedule regular checkups with my Doctor to help monitor my progress. Both Marcia and I were determined to stay fit and healthy.

I decided to cut out red meat, sugar and salt from my diet. In the past, I also drank alcohol and soft drinks, that also had to stop. I had never smoked and had no desire to do so. This made it easier to stay fit and keep the weight off.

Marcia and I thought it was time to get out into the world and start to meet people. We joined a couple of social clubs and this created a circle of friends for us to do things with. This was on top of our ongoing work trying to support the Environmental Defense Fund, WWF (World Wildlife Fund), Defenders of Wildlife, and National Wildlife Federation.

What really got to me and still leaves me dumbfounded was that people didn’t take climate change seriously. I knew if humankind continued down this destructive path that we were headed to a catastrophe in our near future. It appeared that everyone just seemed to ignore these warnings about the environment and continued to party on without a care in the world.

But even now it was getting noticeably hotter (100 degrees Fahrenheit or more) and there were many days in California without rain. Many Dams and lakes were at their lowest levels in years. Reservoirs were mud holes. Water for Los Angeles came from two sources the Owens Valley and the Colorado river. The California aqueduct brought water to farmers in the area.

Occasionally I would try to write about protecting our environment. After writing regularly on these subjects, I found periodicals that would publish my writings. Sometimes it
